BYU vs. SDSU

James and I were able to go to the BYU vs. SDSU game in San Diego this weekend with James' parents. It was a lot of fun. We love living so close to family!

White Coat Ceremony 9/15/09

James' white coat ceremony was this week. I'm so proud of him! He is going to be a great dentist!

And in other news, I have a job! I start next Thursday with Casa Loma College being a Teaching Assistant for their LVN program. Earning $money$ will be great since we had to buy a $14,000 kit of dental tools this week!

On a roll...

Wow, I am on a roll tonight with the blog. I love Texas football.

And Mack Brown and Colt McCoy. Hook 'em horns!

And BYU is finally stepping up to the plate. Hope they can hang in there for a great season.

Just in case: if Texas ever plays BYU, I will be cheering for Texas.

James' first day of Dental School!

James started orientation on Friday. I never thought I would see him so excited to start another 4 years of grueling school! What a champ. Here he is before his first day!

(Thank you Jeff for clothing my husband!)

James and his buddy Parker:

The first person to warmly welcome the class of 2013 at orientation was none other but the psychiatric counselor! Welcome to DENTAL SCHOOL!

On a side note, here is the toothbrush that UCLA gave him on his first day: (it only costs $200,000 to get one of these babies! I could have sworn you can get them for free....)

My mistake. Turns out that this toothbrush has UCLA engraved in GOLD on the handle. Worth every penny.

Our Apartment

As promised, here are pictures of our new apartment at UCLA. Unfortunately, we found out after we moved everything in that we could paint the walls! No more white walls! I'm sure we'll get around to painting someday.

The BIG move!

With our big move to L.A. to start dental school, we decided to start blogging. So . . . welcome!

We had moved in the beginning of the summer to James parents' house using just a suburban but because we bought a bunch of real (non D.I.) furniture during the summer, we gave in and rented a UHAUL for the day. We were glad we did.

Our list of purchased items includes: a dining room table and chairs, a couch (James' favorite), a coffee table and two end tables, an armoire (my favorite), a decorative table, 2 decorative chairs, a bookcase, and a NEW TV (James' close second favorite). We found some great deals and are really excited to start using all of our furniture. A big thanks to James' parents who let us keep it in their house for a few months-- the tv room had 3 couches in it!

So now we're in West L.A. trying to fit in. It's a definite change from the "Happy Valley" (Provo) and it's going to take some definite getting used to (I am still trying to avoid parallel parking at all costs!). So, after we got semi-settled in to our apartment, we thought we would find our new Walmart and buy some things from a place that we knew we were comfortabe at. WRONG! It took us forever to find the place and then it turned out that the Walmart is inside of a mall in a ghetto part of L.A. (USC territory)! In the parking lot there were two very nice Cadillacs with their trunks open and a bunch of people around doing something. We didn't ask. Then we made it to Walmart and it turned out to be three floors of chaos. James practiced his Spanish at the checkout and we went home to hide. Needless to say, James says I can't go there by myself ever again.

So, we're still in the process of moving in. Here's a picture of the mess but we'll post some more pictures of our cute, little apartment soon.
